New to the forum and glad to have found it.
I have inherited a Toro Z480 with the B&S engine and used it once/week for the last year without problem (except for occasional dead battery).
After the mower sat for 3 weeks, I attempted to start it and it was slower than usual to start and when I got it going, black smoke comes out of the exhaust and oil is flowing from somewhere on the deck (not from the oil filler tube and not from the exhaust) - this is without putting the motor in drive.
I have inspected the mower (a nice day here) and the oil level is where it should be, the engine turns freely with a wrench on the flywheel bolt and both valves are doing their thing. The oil filter is intact and not oily on the outside (no gaping hole I can find)
I would appreciate any advice of other places to look on this mower (e.g. "there is a hose that carries oil to the transaxle that can burst"). Since the engine turns, this could be a DIY job for me.
Thanks in advance for any guidance.
