re: Honda GX-630 20 HP engine

Hi there. Anyone familiar with the Honda GX-630 20 HP engine?

We have a new Biomass Autosplit with that Honda engine. We received it this past fall and it seemed to be running perfectly. But when the colder weather set in (and we do not run the thing when it's below 0º. We wait till it's at least in the upper teens, for our own comfort if nothing else) here's what the engine has been doing:

You choke it, turn the electric start, it cranks a little and starts. Everything seems fine. Engine is not laboring; seems to be running smooth. You back off the choke a bit and let the thing warm up a bit before working it, as you should. BUT...the thing runs for maybe a minute or so, and just dies. Just like it ran out of fuel. You start it up again, it sounds normal. Maybe you give it a little throttle, maybe not. It runs for a minute or so, and dies. You have to repeat this 3 or 4 times before the darn thing STAYS running. The machine has less than 40 running hours on it.

Fuel: non-oxygenated premium.
Oil: a lighter winter grade

Neither the air cleaner nor fuel filter is clogged.

The good news is, the thing is still under warranty, so we can take the unit to an authorized dealer and have THEM deal with it. That's 45 miles away, but oh well....

Anybody got any good suggestions?

Pull the float bowl off & check it for water.
