I have a Lesco walk behind with the 19hp Kaw 580v. It starts and dies almost immediately. Acts like it is a kill switch stop. Anyone have any suggestions?

:welcome:

We start by investing in an inline spark tester .
This way you will have cut down the things to check by 50%.

While you are waiting for the tester to arrive remove the float bowl.
Put a catch pan under it so you can see what comes out when you try to remove.
Better than average chance there will be water in there.

Some idle circuits draw fuel from the top of the float bowl.
Water is heavier than fuel so it sinks to the bottom.
For the first seconds the engine sucks fuel from the top of the float bowl , then as the throttle opens up it sucks water from the bottom and stops.

I have removed the fuel bowl and found little to be concerned about. The fuel looks good, no water. I have a tester on the spark plug wire and I see spark until the engine stops completely. Is it likely the fuel cutoff (backfire solenoid) is activating? It acts like the fuel runs out or is shut off.

Well it is fuel related and the solenoid is a good place to start now you have confirmed there is no water in the bowl.
I am not particularly familiar with that carb but if it draws the start fuel from the top & the run from the main, if the solenoid is closing the main you have 1 + 1 = 2

does it have an oil alert switch? or just a pressure switch?

Thanks for the input but the oil safety system acts on the magneto and this engine has a spark till it stops rotating so not connected to oil system.
