right apologies this has probably come up a million times but can't seem to find it. i know the ins and outs / procedure for setting the valve clearance the only bit that seems unclear is setting the fly wheel to tdc......which tdc are we dealing with as one the valves will have play and if the flywheel is moved in either direction a small amount there is no valve movement. the other the valves are snug and will move as soon as fly wheel is moved if you catch my drift!

TDC is TDC, when the piston is at the top on compression stroke.
Inlet opens just past TDC then it closes near BDC.
The tricky bit is it stays just closed as the piston rises then opens just a touch a bit before TDC ( for decompression ) and closes again.
When the piston gets to this TDC that is where you do the valve adjustment.
