I have a White riding mower model LT542G.Can you tell me how a variable speed pulley works?I think my long drive belt from the engine back to the variable speed pulley is stretched or worn.It vibrates a lot while working and mower does not always move forward.I've changed 42 tooth bevel gear and clutch collar that were worn in transmission and relubed.

:welcome:

1) kevlar belts do not stretch, they wear thin so they go deeper into the V grove & become loose.
2) In a normal pulley the side can not move so the belt gets something to grip on till it gets all the way to the center or breaks
In a sliding sheath the moving side is supported by the belts on either side.
If one belt is worn too thin the belt slips because the sliding side is not being fully supported.

You must use original spec belts with these systems as they use a different angle on the V and are shallower so they don't bottom out when running at the smallest diameter.
