Hi guys, I'm new here. Just found this forum. I just received a new CORE power li-ion string trimmer and brush cutter and wanted to share some information from a lesser known brand that's one of the best li-ion units currently available in terms of torque, motor technology and lightweight ergonomics.

I got mine off a Woot.com daily deal last Saturday and received it early Tuesday morning. Since then, I had a few sessions with it cutting everything from stingy dallas grass in my front to 1/4 inch privet along the creekbank of my 1 acre back yard. I've only had it for a week, but in that short time, the trimmer has mandhandled everything I've thrown at it. It has two speed settings, one for high torque (5000rpm) and one for high speed (7000 rpm). I've only used the high torque setting since I prefer it to slice through just about anything growing in my yard (and it preserves the battery).

Here are some initial impressions, photos of the revolutionary simple and powerful motor and a completely non professional, one arm video of the trimmer in action along my creekbank.

The entire motor is only about an inch tall and produces very little heat. After brush cutting my back creekbed for a good half hour, I could still hold my hand on the motor.

Its brushless and replaces the traditional copper coil windings with a printed circuit board etched in a radial pattern between two magnets with a drive shaft through the middle. It produces amazingly impressive torque. The CORE folks say its 25% more powerful than a 25cc two stroke engine. That would put it around the power of a 31cc gas two stroke. I have a 31cc Ryobi that's currently suffering from carb issues. The Ryobi was a monster but I can truthfully say, the CORE is cutting through the same material without fail.

Nice summary....
The poor old Ryobi's sent to the floor.

Yep. That one pic pretty much says it all doesn't it. Two "old school" 2 strokes pretty much dinosaurs now with these lithium batteries and new brushless motors coming of age.

I got the two Ryobi 2 strokes of craigs list. $20 for the both of them. They both had carb issues and leaking fuel lines. I managed to get the 31cc to work for a bit.

I like the power of the 31cc engine although its super loud and vibrates through my hands (I never could get the other one, a 25cc split shaft to work, carb issues) but the simplicity of push button start, no crank, no fumes, no gas, no carb, no leaking fuel line, no winter storage cleanouts, virtually no vibration and noise and the no brainer deal I got on Woot.com made it a slam dunk.

Glad it's living up to the "gas replacement" hype. Its actually much more than a gas replacement. It's a gas replacement without the maintenance headaches of the 2 stroke gas system, . So far so good.

Here are a few videos of some heavy brush cutting using the CORE cordless trimmer fitted with a Grass Gator Extra Heavy Duty metal bladed head. This thing boasts gas-like torque, so I put it to the test. See for yourself. You can hear a couple times I bumped into large privet stumps (5-8 inches across) that I had cut down early Spring of this year with a chain saw. The head bumps away but it doesn't stop the motor due to the unique pivot blade design of the GG brush cutter head. Gotta get some more glyphosate on those stumps!

Sorry for the quality. I'm holding my iphone in one hand and the trimmer in the other. Video transferred at low quality setting instead of HD.

In the video below, I'm using the standard bump head that comes with the trimmer (not the Grass Gator Bladed head). It's outfitted with .095 and does a pretty good job. You can get a sense of the torque as it just slices through the heavy brush with ease.

Cutting down 8 foot weed stalks with the 18v cordless torque monster from CORE power. This time in HD
