Frustrated by Kohler engine!!!

I have a Dixon 4516K
Kohler Engine Family skh426u1g2rb
Model cv16s
Spec# 43516
Ser# 2910611101

It would appear I'm not getting a spark.
Any thoughts, Ideas and or solutions would be appreciated. It was running along just fine,
Then just stopped running. Its getting fuel, checked for spark at plug and there is nothing.
getting very frustrated at this point.

Did you try a new spark plug?

take off the engine cover and find the kill wire to the coil.
Check that it is not earthing out anywhere to the engine.
Now disconnect the kill wire .
If you get no spark with the kill wire disconnected the modules are kaput.

The above assumes your engine has a standard ignition and not the electronic advance ignition which has 3 thin wires attached to the coil.

It has three wires with spade connectors

That is Kohler's SAM ( Smart Advance Module ).
My mistake I did not notice the s = Smart advance
This makes checking the coil a little bit more complicated.
Start by disconnecting the white wire.
that is the kill wire and if it is making a ground contact any where, it will prevent the magneto making a spark.

Crank the engine and check for a spark.
If you get one then the white kill wire is grounding out either in the loom or via a faulty safety switch or ignition switch.

If no spark then check the red wire going into the SAM unit for 12V.
This is important it must be getting between 14v to 7v any more or any less and it is no spark.
The proceedures are a bit cumbersome to rewrite so below is the relevant bit from the engine service manual

Finally got around to working on it again.
Disconnected the kill wire, and it fired right up.
Thanks for the advice guys.

Good, now you have found a problem.
The next step s to fix it.
While the fuel shut off will stop the engine and lack of power to the SAM module will cause the engine to go to full retard,
You now need to track down which one of the safety cut out switches / relays is giving you greif.
The mower is not really safe to use without the cut out switches working.
