Good Morning all.

I've got problems with my yard machines tractor. Can't find the model number and I switched the engine to a Koehler 12.5, 3 1/2 years ago.
Anyway, I think this is a general question.
The brake pedal has a "sweet spot". I have to position it in just the right spot (within 1/2") in order to get the starter to engage.
Otherwise, the machine works pretty well.
Looking at the safety switches and brake linkage, I see no adjustment. I suspect the pedal travels too far in. Yes/no?

I'd also sure appreciate brake adjustment instructions also as it's pretty slow to stop. The pads look ok.

I can provide pics (let me know what you need) .
Thanks folks.

:welcome:

Yes the brake switch is faulty.
Flood it with your favourite goop. WD 40, RP 7 , Innox etc and work the switch plunger to clean out dust and corrosion.
No joy then replace the switch they are about $ 5 to $ 20 .
Take the old one with you to a real mower repair shop becaue there are a few variations.
If it is a 2 pin switch then it willhave a 12 V feed which passes through it.
If it is a 4 pin switch then it will have an additional pair that are ground contacts

Thanks bertsmobile1.
I already soaked it with no result.

Are they typically the same part? I assume only one is faulty.

No.
There are about 13 different switches 2 pin , 4 pin & 6 pin.
Usually one side is normally open ( closes when plunger is depressed ) and the other is normally closed.
However they are not in same position with respect to each other so they don't interchange which is why I advised to go to a mower shop as they can all look the same.

Thanks again for the help!

Just an update...
3 weeks after soaking the switches, it seems to have worked! I went out to start it this morning and it cranked in the brake's fully depressed position!

Success!
