I have a 15.5HP OHV Briggs Intek engine, model 282H007 type 0600-E1. I'm possibly in the market for a replacement for this engine and I can't seem to find an exact replacement with this model number series. I've found 17.5HP 31C707 models. I've also found 13.5HP engines. Would this work or can I get the same 15.5 engine? I'd like to find one that is the same so I don't have to midify the wiring harness that I've heard of others having to do. I don't want to go down in HP size but will if I have to. It's currently on a 38" cut rider so 13.5 wouldn't be too light for it...

Any help would be appreciated.

The suggested replacement engine for your 15.5 is a 31a607-0026-g1 list for $1006 the 31c707 series is a dealer special for $489. The wiring on the 17.5 is most likely a 9 amp regulated where your 15.5 is probable the 3/5 split charging system. A couple of wiring changes is required to modify the 17.5 wiring but is not that hard to do.

The electrical system is very simple and easy to alter, as ILENGINE has pointed out....
If the rest of the mower is in reasonable shape, re-power it and have a good mow  ... KennyV
