Hey all... haven't been around in a while. Hope everybody had a good and prosperous summer. Okay like the title says I've made some changes and since everyone has opinions and likes to express them I thought I'd post up. I value the opinions here and even if I don't follow the advice I'm given I appreciate it and learn from it.
The Gravely 34z is gone. So is the Toro Turfmaster 30.
The Toro was put up for sale because it was just too cumbersome. What it did well it did very well. Great cut quality and the 1"-5" cutting height was a big plus. Just wasn't working for me.
The Gravely was not for sale. Loved that mower but a lady came to see the Toro and fell in love with the 34z. Offered me a price I couldn't refuse.
I bought a '09 Hustler Super Z 54 and an '07 Scag Tiger Cub 48. Not sure I'll keep both. Space is limited and I've already been offered far more for the Hustler than I paid. I'd need bigger lawns to make that a keeper. Being the middle of September I'm not likely to be picking up any new customers.
Personal opinion on the mower. It's a beast. I cut my sister's front yard with it yesterday just to try it out. Small yard but took less than 4 minutes and the cut was great even tho the grass was very wet. No ruts either even tho the ground was very wet.
The scag is a 48" and I'm sure it cuts great too. I'll try it out as soon as the rain stops. It's got a ton of new parts... engine, pumps, motors, belts, spindles, etc.
I also picked up one of those Craftsman 33" walk behinds. Not exactly a commercial mower but the Briggs runs great and the cut quality is excellent. Way easier to maneuver than the Turfmaster too. And it was barely used at less than half the price of a new one. Perfect for most of my yards.
If I was an optimist I'd hold on to the Hustler and hope to find some jobs for it next year. As it is I'm thinking it might be best to sell it and keep the Scag.
The Super Z is comfy. The Scag has a little bit of a rough ride.
Both are in excellent condition.
