I have a john deere 48" mower and i must admit it does not cut grass worth a flip.
correction:It will cut grass that is really short. It leaves a strip down the middle and even on the edges at times.
This is a 3 blade mower and i suspect that is my trouble.I have already did all the obvious things.:confused2:

Thank you in advance: Morgan

Just to make sure the obvious stuff to me would be:
Check belt to make sure it is moving the blades correctly.
Check all the spindles to make sure none of them are not spinning freely.
Clean the underside of the deck completely.
Lube all spindles.
Sharpen or replace blades.
Ask if has ever mowed correctly.

Just wondering, how tall is the grass you are having trouble with ? & what height are you cutting it to ?

All of this has been done. This mower has mowed like this since day 1 brand new.
I t does not matter what size the grass is. where i live the grass shoots up the grass heads that has the seeds
and it will not cut them.

Sounds like a bad deck design for the grass you mow.

If it's been doing this since day one then how come it made it made it to day two without you taking it back.

The first thing I did to my JD 2 blade deck was remove the baffles so it looks like my old Murray that's always done a superior job of mowing. It makes for better mowing, makes the deck easier to clean and if I ever get a SS check raise I gonna buy it some hi-lift discharge blades to replace the stupid blades that came on it.

OH, and I had to re tension the pto belt within an hour of operation from new.
