Fuel Filter on 56 DH?

I'm having an issue with my 56 dh Husqvarna mower. It starts up and runs briefly when I prime it, but then dies and won't start until I prime it again. I'm thinking, "must be a clogged fuel filter." However, I can't, for the life of me, locate said fuel filter in the tank. Is there one? If so, how do I get at it? If not, who would built an engine without a fuel filter?

I'm ready, willing and able to take the carburetor apart for an inspection and cleaning (and hopefully get it back together again), but don't mind skipping that step if there's an easier path to success.
