About 5 hours ago I changed the oil on the LA115 to 10-30W Mobile 1 and changed to filter. Engine had 63 hours on it. Oil was changed from break-in early and at 24 hours.

Was cutting some pretty heavy wet grass today and things got warm ... some smoke started coming out of the exhaust. Shut the fella down and am letting it cool to cold. Has plenty of oil.

After cooling some but not all the way to cold, it is not smoking ... except at shut down.

Wht are the chances I did real damage?

Next day info:

checked the mower for how easily it swings ... no problem.

Changed the oil back to dino 10-30w. Didn't change the filter, but emptied it and reinstalled.

Starts fine. Runs fine. Puffs a little smoke when the mower has run for a minute or so and the engine is shut off.

Moved it from the garage to the front yard (abt 75 yards) up a little hill. Smoked more when the engine shut off.

What to do/look for next?????

Have I experienced a blown head gasket? Seems to not be uncommon on the small Briggs engine from the reading I've done here.

Took the LA115 into the local quality shop and suggested a head gasket problem.

$100 later and a new head gasket ... the mower is working fine again.

Going to try to not push it so hard in the future!
