Bought this older Honda HRT214 mower. Starts on the first pull, goes into over rev, till you can get to the throttle to slow it down. Then will run Ok till you engage the blade. Then it will run for about a minute, and then slowly begins to sputter and quits. If you push it to auto choke then, it will start again on the first pull again, and you can repeat the whole cycle again. The over rev is the first problem, and shutting down is the second problem. Both may be related, but not sure what it is. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like the carb needs a good cleaning. I just watched an excellent video on YouTube that explains this procedure. Search for user "doublewide6" (no, that's not a joke) and his video is entitled "How to fix a Honda Lawnmower". He does a fantastic and thorough job of explaining how to disassemble, clean, and reinstall a Honda carb. Give it a go and post your results!

Here's a guide on how to clean the carburetor. Always use new gaskets when working on the carb.

As a last resort, a new carb is $60 for this mower.

Did a carb cleaning. No change. Finely got out my compressor, and blew out the fuel line. Away it went. Works fine now. Probably needed the carb cleaning as well, but the real problem was the fuel line. Even though fuel came out, it wasn't enough flow. Thanks for the replay anyway.
