285 belt

The belt on my JD 285 from the engine to the pulley on the mower deck seems very loose to me but I don't see any adjustments or any tension pulleys. If I mow in grass 5 inches tall the blades do not cut the grass. Is there an adjustment on this drive belt that I am missing. The belt on the mower deck seems to have good tension. Thanks. Oggie
