Is there any real difference between what a rear tine rototiller can do versus a front tine, or is it mostly personal preference? All I use it for is a basic vegetable garden.

A rear tine will generally cost more, the drive mechanism is more complex... BUT rear tine is MUCH easier to operate.
If you are redoing the same soil each time you till, the front tine will work ok... If the soil gets compacted or has not been previously worked ... the front tine will give you a real work out. :smile:KennyV

Rear tine are far superior to front tine. The front tine ones are bulky and hard to move, or at least the ones I have used, my rear tine one is fantastic.

Yes i agree with everyone else the rear tine tillers are the best ,the most easyes to run. The front tine with make a boy or a man out of you once you used it once, they are hard to control and turn. The rear tine you are pushing down and a front tine you are pulling up all the time and trying to steer tiller::frown:
