Mower deck 54" Deck Issues - Kubota GR2110

Had my 2010 GR2110 in for its 50-Hour service (57 actual hours) at my local dealer & got one helluva' surprise phone call from the Service Dept. They told me the aluminum case for the mower deck gears is cracked (or otherwise messed-up) at the tune of $700! Called my selling dealer who said that's the first he's ever heard of that issue after years of selling these things (pretty much same from local dealer). I guess my issue is....at 57 hours, mowing nothing but smooth lawn?!?! Seems kind of crazy with such low hours (been gone doing Army stuff). If this is indeed the problem, any sources of used/discounted parts out there??? The dealer will get with the regional service rep & go for some goodwill assistance from Kubota. Never an issue with this mower (mowed up 'til the day they picked it up for service late last week) or my '07 L3400. The service manager told me he was surprised to see aluminum being used with a diesel mower, given the additional HP, torque, etc. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated...thanks!

I appreciate all the views even though there were no replies, likely because this is NOT a common problem. Good news, though...Kubota is going to take care of the issue! The regional service rep gave my local dealer the "go" to replace the gear box on the mower deck - no charge to me. Good ending to this story...

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, but I wanted to check with my Kubota rep. and he had not heard of this either. Glad to hear your outcome, as I know that Kubota makes a quality product and after talking to my rep. he was sure that they would help in some way.

Thanks for the effort, Rivets!!! I had a feeling they'd come thru. When he heard about the low hours, the service rep apparently said "absolutely we'll fix it." Thanks again!

Update - Got my GR2110 back from the dealer, mowed for about half an hour, & then smelled the distinctive smell of gear oil. The center pulley straight under the mower deck gearbox was full of oil, which of course had spattered around with the spinning of the pulley. Called the dealer & they came back & picked it up almost immediately. There are now three GRs in their shop with the same problem...very strange! The regional Kubota Rep was to have shown up yesterday to see what the heck is going on. Bizarre stuff...

Mine was leaking just before 2 yr warranty was up and I caught it in time to prevent damage. They fixed it under warranty.

Whoa, don't get excited to quick about the great service. Let me tell you what is going on with me. Bought my GR2110 mower in 2009. I am a retired industrial millwright of 40yrs. After 348 hours had to get them to Replace steering cables because they had broke at a total of $254.70. Now at 371 hours I will quote you the actual problems that cost another total of $694.74 which are FOUND P.T.O. SLIPPING UNDER LOAD- DISSASSEMBLED CLUTCH PACK - FOUND FRICTION DISCS WORN FROM SLIPPAGE-REPLACED 9 FIBER DISCS AND 6 STEEL DISCS- DISSASSEMBLED REAR AXLE - REPLACED SEALS -REPLACED SNAP RING ON FOUR WHEEL DRIVE SHAFT. That is not the mention the hydraulic leak that I fixed myself. Since May 10, 2013 my mower has been in the shop 5 times. The last time they did replace an $86.00 spring that operates the up and down on the mower deck and brings it back to center. The last time they brought it back I mowed approximately 4 hours and then all hydraulics and deck stopped again. After they took it back to the shop they had to flush the hydraulics 5 times because the strainer at the back of the engine for the hydraulics was completely stopped up with a brown fibris cotton like material which makes sense since the clutch is made of fiber discs. It is already slipping again so I know the fiber discs will create the same problem again.
I have been speaking to the District Manager from Georgia his name is Dennis Hood at 1-770-995-8855 (Ext.-2910). I have heard today they want to offer me a $100.00 to settle this problem which was a bad design that they knew of way before they sold these mowers to people. Just check the internet you will find these complaints from several years back. Don't let them fool you into thinking this is a bizarre problem they know nothing about because they have Dennis Hood has admitted to me that all my problems were from a bad design flaw but they cannot put the knew design on an older mower. Best best bet is to run as fast as you can because it only will get worse. I have been through all of this and because of my industrial mechanical background I was able to point out the problems at the dealership that they could not find themselves. They never should have continued selling these mowers to customers knowing FULL WELL THE PROBLEMS THAT WERE TO COME IN THE FUTURE. Hope this helps you out. Regards, ART WALKER

I'll let you know what transpires. I feel really let down since I really like Kubotas & have never had any issues with my '07 L3400 tractor...

I also own a B7500 that I have had no problems with. It is approximately 6-7yrs. old would have to get my manual out to tell you the exact year. Have been very happy with it so far. The District Manager Dennis Hood that I referred to in my previous response called me back this morning and told me basically my tractor was out of warranty that it wasn't his problem to go take it up with the dealer. I recorded the entire conversation up until the point that he hung up on me. Never raising my voice or cursing he told me that I should take it up with the dealer and they could also tell me to go take a hike because it was out of warranty. The people at Dooley dealership have been doing everything they can to help me, but Kubota wants them to take the hit for it and Dooley says it is a bad design flaw and that Kubota should make it right.
Dennis Hood went so far as to say that Dooley dealership said I was rude and demanding (never had one short word with them, only civil conversations sitting across the desk and talking about and pointing out problems with the design). He also claimed that Dooley DID NOT WANT HIM TO DO ANYTHING FOR ME. I in return called the dealership and Dennis had already called the Dooley Service Manager and wanted all the paperwork faxed to him about my mower. I in return played the entire conversation to the Dooley Service Manager about what Dennis CLAIMED THEY HAD SAID. The Dooley Service Manager said that he would try to get back with me by the end of the week. Will try to keep you further updated so maybe you can avoid the problems I have had and continue to have. I think the last thing Kubota needs to do is to try to misinform our SERVICE MEN of all people while they are doing their duty for this country. Thanks brother for your service. Kubota will not do anything for a good will faith even though they know it is a bad design. Dooley which I bought it from gave me back $264 and change. The District Manager in Georgia will not do anything and the lawyers say that they have such an iron clad warranty written up that is almost impossible to make them do anything. I am taking the mower tomorrow and trading it in and buying another John Deere. If your 2 year warranty runs out there is basically nothing you can do. Afraid to even try to mow my yard with it again since I never made it through the last time without it tearing up again. They say I am only intitalled to the $264 according to Kubota. This was given back to me by Dooley that sold me the mower. I WILL NEVER EVER BUY ANOTHER KUBOTA TRACTOR. EVEN WITH THEIR BAD DESIGN THEY WILL NOT DO ANY GOOD FAITH EFFORT AFTER THE WARRANTY THAT REALLY MATTERS. If I were to get on the mower tomorrow and mow my yard I know the same problems would happen again and I would end up with another $1,000 bill. I suggest you GET RID OF YOUR GR2110 as fast as you can because Kubota does not care about their customers. Even though Dennis Hood admitted to the bad design flaw with everything that went wrong with my mower he just said go take a hike. I hope you have better help from your District Manager in Texas. I am still going to contact the owners of Kubota and let them know what kind of representative they have in Dennis Hood. Good luck to you and let me know what kind of District Manager they have in Texas. I hope he is better than Dennis Hood in Georgia. He is rude and could care less whether customers are happy or not. Just as a matter of principle I think I will also get rid of my Kubota Tractor and go back to John Deere. Way better customer service and employees. Good Luck to you.
