I called today to get prices for snow tires and was completely shocked, for four new tires on my little car, it takes 185/65 R14, it was $520 to get them installed and aligned. I don't remember them being that expensive last time.

How long ago was "last time". I've never bought snow tires in my life but that price doesn't sound too bad to me, What kind of tires did you get?
My experience is, the best place to buy tires is a membership warehouse, there or at walmart when they have them on sale.
