I own a 22040 (real nice hardly use it) but i wanted to get into or feedback on 22198 or any of the older toro proline 21 commercial mowers with bbc of what the opinions are. I am looking for a decent used 22043 but so hard to find or even a newer but used proline with bbc. Any feedback would be cool. thanks

The 22198's that we have sold are solid (and heavy!) performers. You can run the machine pretty much all day on one fill up and the larger oil capacity should make the engine last a long time between oil changes.

We've found that getting parts for a Kawasaki engine can be slow and generally the parts are more expensive (than comparable parts from Briggs or Kohler).

Having said all that, Toro has an excellent supply of parts for the deck and tranmission and blade drive mechanisms. These areas are going to be where you will need major repairs.

As far as the 22043, getting Suzuki parts is even more difficult than Kawi and if you can't second source, expensive. We attempted to source a Mikuni carb for a Suzi and it was outrageously expensive.

If I was going to suggest something else, I would say a 22196 which is a 21" BBC with a Honda motor.

Thanks for the information. I know the honda engine is good because I have a lot of honda stuff with gxv120,gxv140 and gxv160 engines. I kinda wanted something different (engine wise) I have had john deere mowers in the past with the kawasaki engines. Pretty good and powerful. Yeah those suzuki parts are dumb expensive. I have a 22040 (non bbc) and it is in awsome shape but i miss not having bbc. BTW I do read a lot that people do not like toro bbc on those proline models. Any thoughts??

I'm in the middle of overhauling the engine (Toro TNT100, by Tecumseh) on my 1984 Toro 20672. The carb on it is said to have been internally corroded (which may be the ultimate source of hard starting) and I recently placed an order for a new one (#632795A, the successor to #632050).

I own an older model Toro 20622 with the Suscki engine ( 1986)
with BBC;
no issues with the engine , no oil leaks or power loss ( I use synethic oil, change regularly)_
