As I approach my 77th birthday, I find that mowing my 1/2 acre with a walk behind mower in +90F weather at 78% or greater humidity is draining. I am contemplating buying a Craftsman 42" riding mower with Hydrostatic drive and my question is: i wish to add a mulching kit, to do so do I need to drop the deck, or can I just run her up on ramps like I do for my car and change the blades and add the blacking piece? Any responses greatly appreciated.

I just put a mulching kit on my Ariens ZTR. It took no longer than half an hour. Jack up the front of your machine and use stands. It used 2 blanking plates and 2 blades. Good Luck!

As I suspected. Thanks.

The mulching kit is simply a cover that goes over the exhaust port of the cutting deck. The same blades could be used. I normally use this set up when cutting my lawn. Works great for leaves too!
