The mower is a Noma rider, Briggs commercial duty engine. The charge indicator is green and the battery charges fully. However, with the ignition "off" the green indicator glows dimly and the battery discharges. I believe there is a diode? in the wiring harness at the ignition switch. Could this be the problem?

Try unplugging the voltage regulator and look at the light. Next the stator and look at the light. Try all the connectors in the harness until the light goes out and maybe you can track it down that way.

If there is a diode in the system, there won't be a voltage regulator. Please post the model numbers and serial numbers of both the engine and tractor, so we will know what we are talking about.
