Yard-Man blades disengage when deck is lowered

I have a 2007 Yard-Man MTD Model 13AM772G755. When mower deck is fully raised, blades engage. But then, when lowered, belt loosens and blades slow down. Any help would be appreciated.

When was the last time you changed the belt? Also, check the belt tensioner to see if it is moving freely.

Just bought the mower yesterday, so not sure when it was last changed. Will check the tensioner here in the next 30 min or so and get back to you...eating dinner right now...priorities, ya know? :licking:

Edited to add: I have now checked the tensioner and it's okay. Not sure what the belt length is supposed to be...according to the manual I downloaded, it says it should be a 96 x1/2" belt. My belt measures 95"...and that's too loose...so that doesn't make sense that I would need a longer belt, does it??
