I know, this is more than a year old post but I just acquired one of these mowers and the problem was the red key, bad connection caused it to somewhat melt causing a no connection electrically. A bad design in my opinion.

Sounds like the governor arm is not set correctly. These are a bit tricky to get just right, I am sure there are YouTube video's on it.

I used a very basic compression tester with one Schrader valve. Had the tester forever so I am sure the is nothing special about it, for small engines or the like.

I will verify the acceleration/deceleration theory. Are guides on these engines replaceable? Is the GXV 140 head the same as the GXV 120?

Well, if that is too much for you to get a proper reading so be it. I don't understand why you would have such a tone when all I was asking was a simple question about the GCV engines. Go about your day and perhaps someone else will answer my question about the GCV engine as I was asking.

No, you do not take apart the engine. On the GXV engines you simply remove the valve cover and slide the rocker arm off of the exhaust valve, pull out the push rod and then pull the rope. Look it up, google is your friend.

Does the GCV190 engine have a decompression feature on the exhaust valve as the older GXV 120 - 140 engines? If so, that would need to be deactivated to get a proper reading for compression.

FWIW, I believe this to just be a normal trait for the model. I have 2 Honda mowers, a HRX217 that almost always requires 2 - 3 pulls and my old 35+ year old Honda 214 SX that starts with the first pull every time.

This is exactly what PartsTree had to do, they used my model number HR 214 SX to find the part.

After my phone call this morning to Parts Tree, they are confirming the ring set is the 13010-ZE6-013 as the latest variation. Still not a three piece oil seal like I was hoping for. Maybe I am just imagining such a thing.

W ill this ring set fit my GXV 120? I want the most superseded part for my mower. If it is a known issue with the old style oil ring I do not want to reinstall the same old style oil ring if possible. I thought I saw someone on here did actually find a three piece for a GXV 120.
