No.....the gas gauge has nothing to do with the deck not flipping up. The gas gauge not operating correctly is a problem all it's own (that is "IF' your gas gauge is the round glass type?). Hopefully the following thread on the gas gauge failure will help? :unsure...

Download a copy of the Service Manual on your particular (specific) model of your Hustler mower and it should show you which belt is needed (part #) and how it is installed on the deck, etc.

If you are concerned about how to go about lifting your mower, check your mowers owner manual or service manual and it should guide you as to how to go about lifting, jacking up, etc. your mower the "proper way" without causing any type of damage to it.
