My Hustler SD54 has a Kohler KT740 engine.
The Hustler manual mentions break in procedures are detailed in the engine Service Manual.
Nope.
Nada..............
Somewhere on the www I saw a mention that the oil and filter should be changed after the first 5 hours of operation.
Elsewhere I have...
Who out there has replaced the plastic front wheel bearings on MTD tractors with oilite or super oilite bushings?
Like the 941-0990 and 941-0516 outside bush??
I hope those are the correct #'s,,,
For MTD 14AR808K731
I see parts listing for complete wheel/tire assy...gotta dig deeper..
How...
For the purists:
Mower: Huskee 54" lawn tractor mower mod. 14AR808K731
Engine: Briggs & Stratton mod. 446777-0316-E1
Date code 040103 YG
The parts breakdown specifies the muffler as MTD p/n 951-0616B (replaces 751-0616)
These are somewhat expensive.

When I received my Raptor SD54 from the big-box store, it exhibited a SLIGHT track to the left
when on flat ground. I didn't like that.
So, I pretty much just followed the linkage til I found the adjustment.
In the Raptor Parts Manual, page 3-10,see the inset for the steering linkage, item #7...
OK. Now I got one.
How do I drive it??
First mowing with my Raptor SD 54 was an eye opening experience,
but I'm sure that I'm not alone in that...
I tended to keep my right hand steady and make minor course corrections with my left.
What techniques do y'all use??
I have read that the Hydro Gear EZT transaxles are rated for gross vehicle weight of 900#
As 2 transaxles are required, is that spec for 2 EZT units,
or would the gross vehicle weight for 2 transaxles be 1800# ?
Should I expect to have to perform any setup adjustments to a new Hustler purchased from Lowe's ??
Do they just uncrate and deliver, or do they have people perform any adjustments?
If they do, how skilled should I expect their personnel to be?
Can I perform adjustments without voiding the...
I have seen 1 brief thread in this forum regarding my knowledge quest:
I am comparing :
Husqvarna MZ54S
Hustler Raptor SD 54" vs.
Both at the $4k price point (-10% at Lowe's this weekend)
The Hustler is Kohler powered; the Husqvarna is B&S powered.
Transmissions...Raptor SD ZT-2800; Mz54S...
I have read only 1 brief thread on this topic in the Husqvarna Forum, so I come here seeking advice.

Is there a down side to using aftermarket coils in a B&S engine??
They cost way less, but do you give anything up in performance or longevity?
I have opened this thread in the B&S Forum.....this one oughta be deleted.
This is a bit of a search for trivia knowledge.
Back in the 80's or 90's, Honda ran a TV commercial in which they showed that each of
their mowers had to pass a 1 pull start test administered by a woman.
Any mower that did not start on 1 pull was sent back to the floor.
Does anyone remember...
I have read many threads on Honda engines surging.
Most seem to occur when the mower is new or cold.
Mine is a bit different.
Engine is GCV160A Type S1M and GJAE series. Automatic Choke, BB65E A carb.
It starts and runs fine for about 5 minutes, then the surging begins.
Most things I have read...
I pulled my head out of the sand recently and found that B&S has changed the power ratings of their engines.
Now, everything is in FPT which I translate as Foot Pounds Torque, rather than good old HP.
I do understand the difference between the two, but am not sure how they relate in lawn and...
I have a Huskee mod 14AR808K731 that I use for the lion's share of grass cutting.
54", 26hp B&S V-twin, 2 speed transaxle, variable speed belt drive.
I have replaced both drive belts and adjusted the pedal travel per the manual, about 1 3/8" before engaging if memory serves.
I can't help but...
I have always had to choke my B&S V-Twin 26hp to start , even when it is warmed up.
So. I cleaned/rebuilt the Nikki 2bbl carb.
Still needs to be choked to start, even when it has been running for a while.
Any suggestions as to what to look for?
During the rebuild process, I the 2 main jets fell...
I am working on my Huskee (MTD) 148AR808K731 w/54" deck.
The steering is very sloppy.
I have replaced the tie rod ends, plastic bushings, steering shaft pinion bushing and the pinion.
Last season I replaced one of the bronze flange bushings that the steering gear rides on (the guide
bushing that...
I have a couple of MTD mowers.
Model # shouldn't be important as this is a generic adjustment system with MTD mowers.
Both use the same deck leveling system: a large hex bolt adjustment gear up/down on the left side secured by a smaller bolt in the middle of the large one.
My 46" mower seems to...
Having gone through a steep learning curve while attempting to use aftermarket mower drive belts (never again..)
I have queries about deck drive belts in MTD tractor/mowers.
Are the MTD brand belts superior to aftermarket belts for deck/spindle drive purposes?
If the use of aftermarket belts is...
I have a Huskee 14AR808K731 garden tractor which I am calling good old #88
Dale Jr. seems to always have the complaint "can't get no forward bite" describing a push condition.
I have the same complaint with my mower.
Turn the wheel (just pretty much rebuilt the steering) and old #88 doesn't...
I have a couple of MTD built Huskee riders, both of which use the plastic steering arm bushings p/n 941-0475
These things don't hold up worth a darn and are responsible for considerable play in the steering.
Has anybody tried replacing these with bronze oilite bushings?
If so, how did it work out??
