    Partially blocking the intake and running fine indicates a fuel delivery issue. So either the new Honda carb has a problem or you have an air leak between the carb at the intake manifold, or an air leak at the manifold to cylinder interface.

    That is the Digital Spark Advance Module or DSAM for short. It controls spark timing and advancement. When it fails can cause a no spark issue. When doing the DSAI conversion that box can be removed and tossed in the trash because the conversion doesn't use it.

    Do you have a MIL light on when this happens. That would give some direction to the problem. But sounds like the issue starts when it goes into closed loop. Disconnect the O2 sensor and then start it and see what happens.

    I suspect there is a ACR issue not releasing compression to crank the engine. Have replaced the ACR on the camshaft a couple times, but ends up being a temporary fix. Have also had to replace the cam gear in conjunctio with the ACR but even that can still result in intermittent issues.

    Not surprised at all. Sometimes if you look at regular motor oil. The quart bottles are cheaper than the 5 quart jug. And I have even found cases where quart bottles were cheaper than 55 gallon drums.

    I wouldn't be afraid to throw another new spark plug in and see what happens. Your no start on starting fluid hints to a lose of spark. So either spark plug or ignition module is doing a heat soak failure type scenario.

    Kohler recommends full throttle shutdown due to how their carbs are plumbed. Kohler setup doesn't shutoff the idle circuit of the carb with the fuel solenoid. So idle shutdown allows fuel to be drawn into the engine and unburnt into the muffler increasing the case of afterfire.

    Agree Rivets. Could be something as simple as a rough area on a pulley that is filing the belt down. Had a rider years ago that had issues with damaging the belt because of paint that had partially chipped off of the pulley in the groove and was acting like a knife to the belt.

    Go back and check your spec number you are missing a digit. And Kohler OEM starters normally have the part number on the starter housing.

    Looks like the float pin is still in place at the bottom of your picture. That has to come out to remove the float. If the float doesn't come out then the float valve is stuck and will need to be pried out. then you can get to the emulsion tube screws after that.
