    Winterizing a powerwasher

After studying some complicated and messy procedcures, I made up my own. What do you think? Connect a garden hose to the input and pour a pint or so of properly diluted antifreeze (50%) into the opposite end of the hose. Then the genius part: Screw the open end into the spigot and turn on the...

    A Tale of Two Chainsaws

I’m not a pro, but I am the go-to guy for some of my friends when they have issues. Recently one brought me his Stihl chainsaw which would not start. It was less than a year old, but it was too much hassle for him to find the proof of purchase and bring it to a dealer for warranty work. He also...

Briggs and Stratton Mower engine won’t start when hot

Failure to restart when hot is the main symptom of vapor lock. The hot engine and lack of flowing fuel vaporizes what should have remained as a liquid. It' happens more redily if you are still using a winter fuel blend. Restarting will be difficult.

Echo srm-225 weed trimmer will only pull when spark plug is out.

Get the oil out of the cylinder. Oil does not compress like the fuel-air mix that is supposed to be there.

    engine starts and dies

Don't overlook the easiest thing to check: Disconnect the fuel line at the engine and make sure it has a steady gravity flow. I've seen a rubber fuel line that swelled up on the inside so much that you couldn't push a coat-hanger wire into it.

    Mower Stalling

The picture of the fuel filter shows almost no gas in it. Is that the correct fuel line? Any air leak will prevent proper fuel delivery.

Would you buy the same mower again?

Absolutely, I would buy this Lawn-Boy walk-behind again. After all, I've been using it exclusively on 1/3 acre for 27 years. Two-stroke engine, self-propelled, alloy deck, bag, mulch, or side discharge. Back in 2003, I replaced the short block. Later it was a bushing in the transmission and...

Deere Lawn Tractor Does Not Roll, wheels locked

After 25 years the old John Deere SX-75 rear-engine lawn tractor is ready to go to the parts farm. It would be a whole lot easier to move it to the street if the rear wheels would roll. When they are both off the ground they turn very nicely, but in opposite directions! Does anyone have a quick...

    Slipping in 3rd Gear

My 1990 walk-behind started slipping in 3rd gear recently. All the transmission gears look perfect and I changed the grease, but the problem is still there. I can feel the gears intermittently trying to catch. The belt is fine and so are 1st and 2nd. Has anyone experienced this problem? Is there...
