we just bought a used John Deere tractor. Great mower but the fuses keep blowing everytime it is engaged. Has anyone else ever had this problem? We have taken it for repair 3 times and they cannot find anything.

If you are talking about when you engage the blades with an electric clutch. You may have an intermittent short in the clutch causing the fuses to blow.

I ran into a similar problem with a friend's riding mower. It turned out that the red wire from the fuse holder that runs all the way back to the starter solenoid would short to ground intermittently and burn the fuse. You may have to remove the wires from the protective casing and be especially observant where the harness may rub against the chassis. Intermittent electrical problems can be the most difficult to find. I have a short finder from snap on and it plugs in where the fuse goes and allows you to test the circuit while energized. This device has a circuit breaker in it so you don't have to keep replacing the fuse every time the short circuit grounds. Try unplugging the electric clutch, if equipped, and see if the problem goes away. You will need a schematic to determine which wire is ground and which is power but you can use a test light to help diagnose the problem. Good luck.

You need to follow all the wires and look for mice bites or spots that rubbed against medal .
Tractors that come into the shop are 50% simple shorts or PTO on the way out .
