The mower will run for about 2 seconds sometimes and cut right off. I pulled out the filter and it was somewhat dirty. I tried to start it without the filter and it was a no go. Also, tried a new plug. New difference. Please help.

Clean the carb and replace the diaphragm if it has one.

Here is one more thing you may want to try. Your ignition (ignition armature/ magneto/ whatever it's called) may be bad, therefore your mower is getting no spark and not starting. To test this unplug the spark plug wire and leave it very close to the spark plug or bar metal frame of mower and look for a spark. If you don't see one, that may need to be replaced. I just did this accept it was on my lawn tractor because I had the same problem.
