Briggs and Stratton 550 self propelled/Poulon Pro.
Have replaced the spark, cleaned the carb(with carb spray), replaced the oil/checked the oil level and installed a new breather. When I start the engine the engine runs strong at first, then slowly the RPMs get erratic and eventually(maybe...
Briggs and Stratton 550 self propelled/Poulon Pro.
I changed the oil and the problem persists. I found this webpage: White Smoke From My Engine which said to clean out or just replace the crankcase breather.
Not being familiar with this, I typed it into google images, but still not sure...
Previously I posted that I could get my B&S 550 engine to start for a few seconds after priming, then it stalled out. It was suggested that I (a) clean the carb out thoroughly and (b) check the diaphragm. I did both. I also accidentally pulled out the coil/rope on the starter. The diaphragm...

As a profitable sideline, I've been mowing lawns about 6 years now. I do mostly small city lots with even smaller lawns. Big professional equipment(both sit down or standup) is too big for the small, contained lawns I mow. I have been using consumer mowers. But the one constant aggravation...
I have a very small lawn mowing business. Mostly urban sizes lawns. Having trouble with both new and used mowers I've purchased. Main problem seems to be dust getting in the carb(and engine?). This is especially true mower easement areas - I think salt trucks in the winter kill the grass...
