What happens when electric clutch is run off battery using a toggle switch

New pto switch, mowed few hours, stopped mowing. Pto knob didn't pull o u t of switch this time.l

Deck disengaged on my craftsman gt 5000, I thought I had bumped switch accidently, when I pulled knob it came off. I pulled switch to engage it with a screw it wouldn't engage.
