    Totally fair question! Yes, the battery terminals are labeled + and - and we installed the battery with the red cable connected to + and the black to the -. When you say a loose battery cable... We may not have installed the little flat rings (spades?) of the cables absolutely bolted flat...

    Unfortunately we bought this mower second-hand and there is no sticker under the seat as there is supposed to be. It's a Yard Machines by MTD. 42 inch cut, 16.5 HP Briggs and Stratton Mower (engine model number 313707). I'll try to attach pictures. Any guesses as to the year of manufacture...
