I'm thinking about going synthetic with my LA135. Any particular brands you fellas recommend for JD products? Or possibly, any you recommend I steer clear of? It won't need to be changed for a while, yet, I just want to be prepared.

Amsoil 15/40 diesel oil is what I use. You are asking a question no one agrees on. Use what ever you are comfortable with. What ever you decide on, change it at lease once a season and keep the oil lever to the full mark.

I think we need a rule no more new threads on oil.

Out of the 200 people that will comment no two use the same oil. I say just pick one and stay with it.

I like to see the oil threads, it always amuses me.
I think a synthetic is a good choice for that application. An air cooled engine can present a challenge for a motor oil. It's only 2 quarts, so you're not talking about a lot of money.
I don't think it matters much which one you use.

I agree it is fun to watch people try to prove that the oil they use is the only oil anyone should use.

Hello
I run Pennzoil Untra synthetic engine oil in all of my 4-cycle gas engine. The reason is simple, no Other Oil on the Market Can begin to compare to it period. It has the top shear strength of any engine Oil produced, and Team Penske run's right out of the bottle in their Indy engine car's that turn 15,000 RPM's without any engine failure's from it. I figure if their engine Turning 15,000 RPM's can stay together using it surely my Onan P-218 in my John Deere 318 will last running 3600 RPM's. Regards, Hammerdown

Hmmm...certainly no consensus. Guess I'll be trying good old Mobil 1, like I used to use in my truck.
