Have you tried the major filter manufacturer sites or Carquest / Napa -- ?

    for Kohler 17.5
    K&N lists HP-1002
    Wix lists 51348

Usually the owners manual will give you filter numbers and the store will have a book to look up cross reference.

I use the wix site. Napa uses the same numbers with a different prefix. Once you have the numbers you can get the filter. next time

Measure the O ring seal diameter. Then the screw thread pitch/ dia with a thread gauge. Better yet, find a matching bolt to take to an auto parts store. Open and try some filters 'til one fits. I went bigger (deeper can) when when I did this for the Intek.

You must overcome the fear factor that Briggs sets that their $15 filter has magical cooling powers.

If your current oe filter is a 52-050-02 then a stp 3614 will work.
